Varicose veins 2 mm or larger should be treated by surgical removal only!

Protection of the normal healthy vessels, complete removal of ALL varicose structures and utmost care to avoid unnecessary handling of skin and subcutaneous tissues are very important for success.

Unfortunately when these guidelines are not observed, varicose veins surgery is painful with longer recuperation, unfavorable results and early recurrences.

However varicose veins surgery preformed by surgeons specialized in this field produces excellent and durable results, with recurrence rates of only 2-5 %.

In other words, successful treatment is achieved in 95-98 % of the cases.

There are two approaches in varicose veins surgery.

Important differences are:

New Surgical approach    Classical surgery (Saphenous stripping)
  • GSV is protected if healthy
  • Very short healing time
  • Light general anesthesia
  • Micro incisions are used
  • Meticulous marking of varicose veins
  • Short surgery time 30-45 minutes
  • Outpatient basis
  • Back to work in 3 days
  • GSV is removed
  • Varicose veins packets are removed through large incisions
  • Has more complications
  • Requires hospital stay 1-3 days

 GSV : Great Saphenous Vein
